Central Park · planning your time

Central Park is 843 acres, and the loop road round the outside is 6.1 miles. How long a pedicab tour takes is really a question about how much of that you want to see — so the useful answer is not a number, it is what each length actually reaches.

The short answer. Our tours run from 30 minutes to 3 hours. Half an hour covers the south end and the Home Alone 2 corner. An hour covers fifteen landmarks and is what most people book. Ninety minutes adds Bethesda Terrace and the Bow Bridge without rushing them. Two hours covers twenty-five landmarks. To circle the entire 6.1-mile loop including the northern half, allow a full hour non-stop.

Prices are per person for the whole tour. Each pedicab carries up to three passengers.

The two non-stop rides, timed to the minute

Two of our routes are different in kind: no scheduled stops, one flat price for the pedicab, and a fixed running time.

  • Full Central Park Loop — 60 minutes. The complete 6.1-mile circuit, including the northern half most tours never reach: the Ravine, the Harlem Meer, the Conservatory Garden. $180 for the pedicab, up to three guests.
  • Central Park + Midtown — 90 minutes. An hour for the whole park, then Fifth Avenue, Rockefeller Center, Times Square and the Empire State Building. $270 for the pedicab, up to three guests.

How that compares with seeing the park on foot

The arithmetic is simple and it is the reason people book a pedicab at all. The outer loop is 6.1 miles. At an ordinary walking pace of about three miles an hour that is roughly two hours of continuous walking — before you stop anywhere, and without the paths through the middle where most of the famous places actually are. A pedicab covers the same ground in an hour, stops wherever you ask, and nobody is tired at the end of it.

Put the other way round: in the hour it takes to walk from Grand Army Plaza to the Reservoir and back, a pedicab tour has shown you fifteen landmarks and returned you to where you started.

Choosing by the time you have

  • An hour between other bookings. The 30-minute Economy, or the Classic if you can stretch to it — allow ten minutes either side for finding your driver near Central Park South.
  • A free morning or afternoon. The 1.5-hour Premium. Long enough to get out at Bethesda Terrace and the Bow Bridge rather than rolling past them.
  • Your only day in New York. The 2.5-hour VIP covers the park and Midtown, which saves you a separate trip downtown.
  • You want the whole park and nothing else. The non-stop Full Loop, exactly 60 minutes.
  • Travelling with small children. Thirty to sixty minutes is usually the honest limit of anyone's patience, and you can always book again.

Timing questions people ask

How long does a Central Park pedicab tour take?

Between 30 minutes and 3 hours, depending which tour you book. The most popular is the one-hour Classic, which covers fifteen landmarks. The full 6.1-mile loop of the park takes a non-stop hour.

Does the clock include photo stops?

On the per-person tours, yes — the length is the length of the tour, stops included, and stopping does not add to the price. On the two non-stop rides there are no scheduled stops, which is how they cover more ground in the same time.

How long does it take to go all the way round Central Park?

One hour by pedicab, on the Full Loop. On foot the same 6.1 miles is roughly two hours of steady walking with no stops.

Can we make the tour longer once we have started?

Ask your driver — extending depends on their next booking. It is more reliable to book the longer tour from the start, and the per-person price for a longer tour is lower per minute than the short one.

How early should we arrive?

Ten minutes is plenty. Pickup is near Central Park South and we are flexible about the exact corner, so tell us where you will be coming from.

What happens if we run late?

Call us — (929) 770-7705. We will do what we can, though a late start may shorten the ride if another booking follows yours. Cancelling is free up to 24 hours before.

Is 30 minutes long enough to be worth it?

For a first look at the south end of the park, yes — it reaches the Gapstow Bridge and Wollman Rink corner, which is the part most visitors picture. If you want Bethesda Terrace and the Bow Bridge, book the hour.

Pick a length and book it

From 30 minutes to 3 hours, private, with the whole total shown before you pay and free cancellation up to 24 hours before you ride.
