Skip to content A simple, no-nonsense take on pedicab gratuity — what's standard, when to add a little extra, and whether cash or card is the smarter call.
New to pedicab etiquette? Treat it like any other service in the city: 15–20% of the ride cost is the sweet spot, right in line with a cab fare or a dinner check. On a $25 spin that's roughly $4–5; stretch it further for a longer loop of the park. Your rider is doing the pedaling and playing tour guide at once, so a few dollars is an easy way to show it landed.
Nobody hands you a rulebook, and you won't be judged for rounding to whatever feels right — 15–20% just keeps the math painless. Planning something longer or a little special? Nudge toward the top of that range. Either way the tip sits on top of the fare, and that fare is spelled out before the wheels start turning, never a surprise at the end.
Prefer numbers to percentages? Here's a quick cheat sheet by ride length:
Some rides earn a little extra. If your driver knew every hidden corner, paused so you could get the shot, chased the best light, or helped pull off a proposal or a birthday surprise, that effort is worth recognizing. Tipping is always your call, and the ride price is agreed clearly upfront — take a look at our honest pricing guide or browse every Central Park pedicab tour.

Around 15–20% — call it $4–5 — the same as you'd round up a taxi or a restaurant bill. For longer tours, scale it up from there.
When the ride goes beyond the basics — extra photo stops, real local knowledge, a bit of patience, or a hand pulling off a special moment like an engagement.
Not at all — it's always your choice. Still, tipping is the norm in New York and drivers genuinely appreciate it. Just keep the gratuity separate from the ride price, which should be agreed clearly before you set off.
Cash is easiest for drivers, so a few small bills come in handy. Most will also let you add a tip on a card payment — just ask when you settle up.
Hop on for a relaxed ride with a local who fills the trip with stories and unlimited photo stops — from $25, with the price locked in upfront.
