Central Park fall foliage by pedicab
Peak color, without the six-mile walk
Most of the park’s color sits in places walkers never reach in one afternoon. We plan the route around where the leaves are best that week, and you ride under a blanket.
Foliage report · updated October 26, 2026
Central Park this week: a quarter turned, peak is close
In the week of October 21–27, the I LOVE NY foliage report put Central Park at about 25% change: mostly yellow leaves, now with touches of red and orange. That is up from about 20% the week before. Much of the park still reads green from a distance, so the strongest color is still ahead.
What it means for your ride: this is a good week to catch the first reds and oranges. The usual peak comes around the start of November, and the north end often holds on into mid-November, so early November dates are the safest bet. Next update: October 29.

The foliage calendar
Central Park doesn’t change color all at once
Central Park fall foliage turns first at the south end and on the big open lawns. The sheltered woods and the north end hold their color longest. That gap is why a ride in early November can still look like peak.
Dates move every year. Warm, dry autumns push peak later; an early frost speeds it up. We check the park every day in season and steer your ride toward whatever is brightest that morning.
2026 forecast
When is peak foliage in Central Park in 2026?
Expect Central Park fall foliage to peak from the last days of October to about November 10, with the north end often keeping its color into mid-November. The Old Farmer’s Almanac forecasts New York City at or around peak by November 1, 2026. Central Park usually turns a little later than the suburbs, because the city stays warmer at night.
| Year | What happened in Central Park |
|---|---|
| 2024 | Peak came more than a week early, around October 24, after an October with almost no rain (NBC New York). |
| 2022 | Around November 1 most of the park was at peak, while the elms on the Mall were already past it (Conservancy foliage map, reported by Time Out). |
Two dates to plan around this year
Sunday, November 1 — NYC Marathon. The race finishes in Central Park and runs along Central Park South, where our rides start, so streets around the meeting point are closed for much of the day. If you can, pick another day for your ride.
Sunday, November 1 — clocks go back. From then on the sun sets at about 4:50 pm, so November rides are best booked for late morning or early afternoon.
South to north
The color route we ride
These are the stretches where Central Park fall foliage usually looks best. Your driver reorders them on the day, depending on light and where the trees are furthest along.
The Mall & Literary Walk
A long tunnel of American elms. When they turn, the whole promenade goes gold overhead and underfoot.
Bethesda Terrace & the Lake
The trees around the Lake reflect in the water, so you get the color twice. Best from the terrace steps.

Bow Bridge
The classic autumn photo. Ask your driver to stop on the east side for the bridge with the trees and the skyline behind it.

Loeb Boathouse
Rowboats on the water and maples along the shore. A good place to stop for a coffee and a photo.

The Ramble
Thirty-six acres of woods with the widest mix of trees in the park. Often the last part of mid-park to fade.
Conservatory Garden & Harlem Meer
The quiet north end, reached on the Full Loop. It often holds color into mid-November.

Central Park fall foliage questions
Which weeks bring the best fall color to Central Park?
Most years it runs from the last week of October to about November 10. Color starts at the south end and along the Mall, while the north end often holds on into mid-November. The weather moves the exact dates every year.
How long should a fall foliage ride be?
Ninety minutes is ideal in autumn. One hour covers the Mall, Bethesda and Bow Bridge. To reach the late color at the north end, choose the non-stop Full Loop.
What if the leaves aren’t at peak on my day?
We check the park daily during the season and adjust your route toward the most colorful areas that morning.
Is it cold on a pedicab in November?
It can be. Every pedicab has blankets, and the canopy blocks most of the wind. Wear layers and a scarf, and gloves for early rides.
How far ahead should I book in the fall?
Fall weekends sell out first. Book 3–5 days ahead in late October and early November, and earlier for a proposal.
